Show Update
There's never been a better time to experience CHICAGO!
This season, CHICAGO sizzles with two electric stars. Huey Lewis, the rock legend whose many hits with Huey Lewis and the News include "Heart of Rock & Roll" and "Power of Love," joins the triumphant hit musical on November 20.
And Tony Award winner Bebe Neuwirth, who already made her mark as Velma Kelly, will return to the show for a special engagement, December 31-March 25 -- this time starring as Velma?s partner in crime, Roxie Hart. This will mark the first time that an actress will have played both starring roles.
CHICAGO celebrates its 10th year on Broadway as the longest running revival on November 14.
Chicago
CHICAGO - book by Bob Fosse and Fred Ebb, music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb. 1997 winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival.
Velma Kelly - a vaudevillian - and Roxie Hart - a chorus girl - are both murderers, media darlings and full of all kinds of mischief in this tale of greed, crime, and show biz in 1920's Chicago.
Velma shot and killed the other half of her sister act and had the limelight in the Chicago newspapers until Roxie murdered a nightclub patron with whom she had been having a fling. Both awaiting trial in a Chicago jail, they play their celebrity for all it's worth, trying to keep the spotlight and high-profile lawyer Billy Flynn.
In the end, there's a new sister act - Velma and Roxie - dancing their hearts out to jubilant audiences.
Reviews
"A musical for the ages...the best musical in town" - New York Times
"a reminder of a whole lost vocabulary of choreography" - Time Magazine
"Mr. Kander's music, which makes free use of Dixieland, rag, soft-shoe, and jazz jolts the senses one minute and a few minutes later, soothesthem with harmonies of irresistible sweetness, which act as counterpoint to some of the most caustic lyrics Mr. Ebb has ever written." - Sunday Times
